As the snow firms up and the temps drift away from minus 15, those of us not in the Fat Bike Club will be itching to get out to ride. If you are like me, you like to ride your Plus tires or normal MTB tires to retain the handling feel from the summer months. So.... here are a few things to remember when you set up your bike to head out.
IMPORTANT... this is not intended for fat bike riders, nut the rest of us taking out our regular mountain bikes into the colder, or snowier weather as we await dry trail and summer temperatures.
Lets start with Suspension...
Cold weather slows things down, so you likely will have to make a few changes.
A pro level, and ride nerd step beyond those suspension tweaks would be to lighten the fluid in your lower legs too. That lubrication fluid could be 15wt to 20wt and in cold temps will firm up, possibly get gummy, but more importantly will stop lubricating up the stachions and keeping the fork stiction free. If you are nerdy enough, change that to a 5wt oil for the colder months.... but don't forget to change it back!
Set your pressure outside to your regular summer PSI as a starting point, go for a ride, then re-assess. Here are a few things to think about and take into account
You wont find me out pushing through deep snow or riding a fat bike in the freezing cold just to get out, but when those Unicorn winter days show up with just the right conditions to ride nearly as RAD as the summer.... you might see me hunting for some fun!

So... if I love something... you will hear about it
If I dislike something... you are going to hear about that too!
